How to Make World Cup Bunting — Easy Felt Flag Tutorial

With the World Cup in full swing and two very different teams being supported under our roof, I thought it was time to settle the rivalry in the most crafty way possible — with homemade bunting! These little felt flags are quick to make, look brilliant strung up around the house, and are a lovely way to show your colours. Here's how I made them.

I used 10mm red and white ribbon cut to length for each piece and a 12x6 cm piece of felt with the top 3cm turned over for the loop. The flags are then strung onto a length of the same ribbon used for the flag detail. I made 14 flags per strip.

You will need 

• Main colour felt fabric, large piece
• 10mm ribbon for flag detail and hanging 
• matching thread
• sewing machine
  

First of all cut the felt into the 12cm x 6cm rectangles. I folded the felt so I could cut out loads at the same time. 

Next I sewed the 3cm turnover using the machine.

Then the fun bit, - cut a length of ribbon to fit across the width of the felt flag (about 6cm). Position it horizontally on the front of the flag and sew with the machine along both edges to secure it. Repeat with a second ribbon in your team's colours to form the cross — this is what gives each flag its identity!

String the flags on a length of the ribbon ( I used a weaving needle to get them on), tie a loop on each end and hurrah, they're ready to hang where everyone can see them.
